Garfield High School Football is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and high-character Defensive Coordinator to join the Bulldogs coaching staff. We are building a disciplined, competitive, and character-driven program rooted in accountability, toughness, and pride — and we are looking for a leader who can anchor our defense.
This is an opportunity to help shape young men on and off the field while competing at a high level within Washington high school football.
Position Overview
The Defensive Coordinator will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the entire defensive program (Varsity level), while collaborating closely with the Head Coach and staff to ensure alignment with overall team philosophy and culture.
Key Responsibilities
Defensive Leadership & Strategy
Develop and install a comprehensive defensive scheme
Create weekly game plans and scouting reports
Lead defensive meetings and film breakdown sessions
Make in-game defensive adjustments
Player Development
Develop position-specific techniques and fundamentals
Teach tackling, pursuit, leverage, and defensive discipline
Mentor student-athletes in leadership, accountability, and academic responsibility
Staff Collaboration
Work collaboratively with position coaches
Assist in offseason strength & conditioning alignment
Participate in staff meetings and program planning
Program Culture
Uphold and model high standards of integrity and professionalism
Support multi-sport athletes
Promote positive relationships with parents, staff, and the Garfield community
