ONALASKA MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL ASSISTANT COACH
2026-2027 SEASON
Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our coaching staff as a Middle School Assistant
Girls Basketball Coach at Onalaska Middle School. This seasonal position is ideal for someone who is
enthusiastic about mentoring young athletes and helping them develop their skills both on and off the court.
The assistant coach will work closely with the head coach to provide a positive and competitive environment
for student-athletes, fostering teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in planning and conducting daily practices and training sessions.
- Help develop and implement game strategies and player development plans.
- Provide individual and group instruction to enhance players' skills and understanding of the game.
- Support the head coach in managing team logistics, including scheduling games and transportation.
- Monitor student-athletes' academic performance and promote a balance between athletics and academics.
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, teamwork, and personal growth.
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding team activities and
expectations.
- Assist in the evaluation of players’ performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Attend all games and practices, ensuring a consistent presence for the team.
- Uphold the values and standards of Onalaska Middle School and the athletic department.
Requirements
- Previous coaching or playing experience in basketball, preferably at the middle school or high school level.
- Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals and strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the head coach, players, and other staff members.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team environment.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before the season starts).
- Must pass a background check as required by school district policies.
- Availability during the entire basketball season, including practices, games, and team events.
- A passion for youth development and a commitment to the overall well-being of student-athletes.
