Athletic Director 2026-27 School Year $10,073-$11,881 Yearly Stipend ASSIGNMENT: This position works closely with student-athletes, parents, administrators (Waterville & Mansfield), and the community to provide primary leadership of the Mansfield/Waterville high school athletic programs. The Athletic Director will ensure programs are aligned to local, state and federal rules/regulations while also adhering to the WIAA handbook. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Coordinate with the Mansfield Athletic Director. 2. Provide positive leadership and supervision of all high school interscholastic athletic programs and activities. 3. Interpret and implement applicable state regulations, board policies, WIAA and NCAA regulations. Especially become familiar with WIAA handbook. 4. Ensure Title IX compliance. 5. Prepare and submit to the ASB Advisor & Director of Finance a budget for each sport/activity in cooperation with each coach/advisor. 6. Submit purchase order requests for payment of all bills for extracurricular sports/activities to the ASB Council & Director of Finance according to ASB regulations. 7. Evaluates activities and athletics programs for safety, equity and effectiveness and makes appropriate recommendations. 8. Maintains inventory and storage of equipment and training supplies for all sports. Work in conjunction with the Superintendent or his/her designee, ASB council and advisor, and coaches to order all athletic equipment and supplies. 9. Coordinates district athletics/activities calendar, transportation, facility use, grounds keeping schedule (including field prep and cleanup), athletic awards programs, event workers, team pictures, professional development opportunities for coaching staff, and supervision. 10. Establish on going eligibility lists for all sports/activities coordinating with school secretary. 11. Ensure all athletes have a valid physical examination and are properly insured for each sports season with proper documentation. 12. Ensure all athletes are registered on online registration system through Arbiter and have an ASB card purchase before participating. 13. Promotes a positive culture of academic achievement, sportsmanship, integrity, respect, and loyalty by all coaches and athletes. 14. Observes coaches at practices and contests; evaluates and mentors’ coaches to promote positive and professional behavior; facilitates meetings to ensure a high-quality coaching staff. 15. Lead in the hiring process of all High School coaches. 16. Maintain an accurate and up to date schedule. 17. Report to the school board when requested. 18. Assume responsibility for securing officials for contests not covered by Officials Associations. Especially become familiar with Arbiter: the scheduling online website. 19. Attend and represent the Shockers at all meetings of the WIAA, District 5 and Central Washington B League as required. 20. Assume responsibility for disseminating District and League information to the board, administration and coaching/activities staff. 21. Maintain school files for WIAA, District 5, Middle School/Junior High School, and Central Washington B League information. 22. Ensure that reports and membership dues are paid for WIAA, District 5, Middle School/Junior High School, and CWB League. 23. Check the operation of scoreboards and other necessary electronics before the start of each season. 24. Coordinate the practice schedules for all seasons. 25. Assume responsibility for the payment of all officials working with District Office Secretary. 26. Coordinate game/activity night helpers (ticket sellers, PA announcers, timers, scorers, linesmen, and supervisors). 27. Serve as the game manager for home contests or coordinate with the building principal to ensure game coverage. 28. Coordinate building security for home events with the Custodial/Maintenance staff/Principal. 29. Responsible for disseminating timely information to coaches and athletes regarding state, district and local eligibility regulations and requirements; especially the WIAA handbook and Waterville/Mansfield athletic and activity policy. 30. Assumes responsibility for the Student Athletic Code with the Mansfield Athletic Director. Presents an updated version to the school board each spring for the following year. 31. Serve as a public relations liaison for the athletic/activities program with the community working closely with the Booster Club and other local community groups. 32. Monitor each sports season regarding the number of practices each athlete must have before participation per the WIAA handbook. 33. See that Shocker athletes receive proper publicity for special awards and/or achievements. 34. Coordinate sports awards programs including the Crimson Awards. 35. Coordinate with the coaches an effective security system for control of athletic equipment and uniforms. Implement an annual inventory process. 36. Be a liaison with the coaches for the ongoing certification requirements for the coaching staff per the WIAA – especially first aid and/or sports medicine. 37. Continue to facilitate and foster the relationship between the two districts involved in the current sports combine working with Mansfield’s Athletic Director, Principal and Superintendent. 38. Properly evaluate each coach (head and assistant) and meet with each to discuss evaluation. 39. Communicate effectively and consistently with school principal, transportation director, district business manager, district secretary and ASB advisor. 40. Conduct necessary meetings with all coaches throughout the school year to build effectiveness across the coaching staff. 41. Become well versed in the online Final Forms platform that WIAA uses to organize all coaching and athlete information. 42. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: • Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently. • Excellent oral and written communication skills., including email, website updates, and telephone communication. • Strong communication skills and ability to effectively supervise a wide range of people, including students, coaches and volunteers. • Basic knowledge of school finance. • Proven management and organizational skills. • Proven knowledge of District, WIAA, state and federal rules, regulations, policies and procedures. • Ability to maintain confidentiality. • Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain solid follow-through in a timely manner. • Flexibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to model positive behavior appropriate to district and community expectations. • Ability to stand, move about, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach on a frequent basis. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. • Junior High / High School coaching experience required. Head coaching experience preferred. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS: Teacher certification is highly desirable, although not required. Current First Aid card or ability to gain the card, valid driver’s license. Required passage of the Washington State Patrol/FBI background check. EXPERIENCE: • Previous and/or current successful coaching experience is highly desirable.
